SPANISH BOMBS

I have chosen the song Spanish Bombs. It was written in 1979. It is from the group The Clash. However, it was written by the composer Strummer that was the co-founder, songwriter, singer and guitarist of this band.
It is a punk and British band. They have other exits such as “Should I stay or Should I go”, “Rock the Casbah”… The most famous album was London Calling. The song I have chosen, is from this album.
It is a great song that talks about the Spanish bombs of the Spanish civil war (136-139). But the inspiration came to Joe Strummer not by the bombs of the year 39 that are remembered in the song, but by others that exploded in the 79 that he saw on an English newscast. The incidents of the Spanish Civil War are compared with the actions of ETA, who had been bombing popular holiday resorts. The song also referenced the IRA (Irish Republican Army) and warned of history repeating itself. What caught the attention of the Clash singer was that it seemed that this country always ended its conflicts with a bang.
I have chosen that song because I like it. It’s not the first time I listen to it. Even though, I didn’t know the meaning and I found it interesting.
